EZI may be young (23) but she has been working for over a decade, quietly inching her way towards a career in entertainment by making one D.I.Y. move after another of her own volition. Born Esther Zyskind she changed her name to Zynn as she launched an childhood acting career. Born to immigrants, she came to embrace an outsider perspective and decided to act 'in order to escape.' By 16, she had begun writing songs with a producer friend in the city. Amidst dysfunction at home and difficulty in school due to dyslexia, she admittedly found solace in music. She notes, 'For the first time, I basically got rid of any backup plan that I had, went against everything my parents taught me, and walked off a cliff,' she admits. 'I felt stuck. However, I needed to do more. So, I cut and dyed my hair and wrote and recorded songs. It was my first opportunity not to conform.' Another name change was in order and Esther became EZI.
Following a chance encounter with Steve Madden at the Soho Steve Madden Store, those songs earned the songstress a deal with 5 Town Records as its inaugural signee and went on to comprise her debut AFRAID OF THE DARK EP. The EP’s breakout single DaNcing in a RoOm led to EZI’s debut appearance on the Billboard Charts when it debuted at #38 on the Dance Chart almost a year after its first release. It also saw acclaim and support from Refinery29, Earmilk, The Line of Best Fit, and more.
In August, 2018 EZI was named the face of Steve Madden's national Madden Girl campaign, the first artist to have this honor.
EZI is excited to celebrate Valentines Day by sharing her take on Berlin's 'Take My Breath Away' via 5Towns Records. The track premiered at Blackbook Magazine who note that her version 'is actually more ethereal and sultry, with a slithery groove and lush atmospherics. Her impassioned, breathy vocal performance literally sends chills.' Of the single EZI reveals, 'I created this song during my time writing in Berlin with a producer named Alexis Troy. I always wanted to flip a classic song that's so different from my sound and make it my own. It was my first time in Berlin and I was so swept off my feet by the city so I felt like the message of the song and the fact that it was originally released by Berlin made made recreating Take My Breath Away feel so right. This track also gives my fans a taste of where I'll be going sonically in my next project.'
EZI's latest release is the first from EZI in 2019 and the follow up to her single 'Family Tree.' 'Family Tree' was the first sneak peak of her next project. In addition to 'Family Tree,' 2018 saw EZI reveal the stand alone single 'Need You Like That' and toured the US as support for Max w/ Bryce Vine and Nina Nesbitt. In January she played to a packed room at Brooklyn's Elsewhere and landed on the cover of Newsday. Perez Hilton dubbed her music 'pop candy' and The Line Of Best Fit 'bewitchingly slinky pop.' Refinery 29 has called her 'unstoppable force.'
